DESCRIPTION: APW - Hamilton, Grade 990 with very rare fishscale damascene, 21J, 16S, gold-filled OF swingout case with attractive engine turning and engraving detail to rear, "Tallmadge and Dalton" marked white enamel SS dial, SW-LS, fully capped lever escapement, fishscale pattern nickel damascene, s#356411. This fishscale pattern damascene is very rare among Grade 990 production and was a special finish made for the Burr W. Freer Co. of 717 Market Street, San Francisco, California who were "Pacific Coast Agents" of Hamilton watches. This example is listed in the Hamilton factory ledger as having been sold to Burr W. Freer on August 26th, 1910, and this watch is from a group of 15 consecutive serial numbers (356401 to 356415) that are listed as having special finish and being sold to Freer during August and September of 1910. CONDITION: Mvt: Running, fine-plus cosmetic mvt condition overall, bright lustrous plates with scattered fine scratches the most notable of which runs along the upper perimeter of the train bridge, center jewel setting is a brass replacement, regulator with ample oxide, regulator spring and winding wheels with some spots of oxide, plate screws and click with fine scratch striations likely from sanding to remove oxide; dial with faint hl below seconds-register, some scattered micro-fine scratches; fine hands with some scattered spots of finish loss; case shows very little wear, two mild small mars to lower portion of bezel seam likely caused by a past attempt to open with a tool, few scratches, few pinpoint nicks, no dents or dings, excellent engine turning and engraving detail, few tiny spots of wear to brass to pendant; tight bow, crown shows very light wear; good glass crystal.
